As part of their unit on Islam, 8 Blue students participated in an interdisciplinary lesson where they studied Islamic art in their history and art classes. The students began by researching the distinctive style, colors and intricate patterns that make Islamic tiles so easily recognized and appreciated throughout the world. They then used this knowledge to create a realistic tile design that could have been featured on the wall a mosque or other public building somewhere in the Islamic world. These tiles were displayed in the main foyer of the Masconomet Middle School and all students and staff had the opportunity to view them and vote on their favorites.
